KOCHI: Kerala CBSE School Managements' Association (KCSMA) has alleged that the "liberal valuation norms especially awarding free marks" by state board in class X and XII are affecting the prospects of CBSE students in Kerala.
In a letter to CM Oommen Chandy, KCSMA has said, "This adversely affects CBSE candidates while computing weightage for XIIth level public examination. Since no such free marks are being permitted at the CBSE XIIth examination valuation level, it is found to be an attempt to sabotage the chances of CBSE school students in Kerala."
The matter was raised in a representation submitted by the association to the CM on April 29.
It demanded that the state government should treat all unaided CBSE schools in Kerala on a par with the corresponding unrecognized schools under state syllabus and extend all privileges and protections granted to the latter.
In the representation, it has also drawn the CM's attention to discriminatory tax that has been thrust upon the CBSE schools in the state such as treating unaided CBSE schools as "commercial" for electricity tariff and demanding that CBSE schools ensure ESI coverage with retrospective effect. It has also requested that the speed limit in school buses needs to be enhanced from 40 km to 50 km.
Further, it drew the CM's attention to state government authorities denying permission to CBSE schools to implement facilities under the NCC/SPC (student police cadet) schemes. "At the same time weightage is being given to state board students at the time of awarding grace marks for X/XII level public examination. This adversely affects unaided CBSE schools in Kerala," the representation states.
"We had brought all issues that mattered to us to the attention of the authorities concerned in the state government, but we are yet to receive any positive response. Hence, we were forced to make a representation to the CM," said KCSMA general secretary Indira Rajan.
It has demanded that an expert committee should be formed to study the problems and issues faced by the CBSE schools in the state with due representation from CBSE School Managements' Association.
In a letter to CM Oommen Chandy, KCSMA has said, "This affects adversely CBSE candidates while computing weightage for XIIth level public examination with 50% weightage for the qualifying examination. Since no such free marks is being permitted at the CBSE XIIth examination valuation level, it is found to be an attempt to sabotage the
